londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

the first full ep on credo by folker zwart from amsterdam, and here we go with some modern techno amusement like a fresh breeze and showcasing the talent in here. while all the shades are undoubtly focussed on the dancefloor shade 1 is probably the most peaktime-like approach while shade 2 creates an amazing atmosphere with its pure and clean pads and sounddesign. shade 3 even crosses some slightly jazzy path and alltogether a perfect definition of the credo idea to present colors and not only shades.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

fred p immerses himself further into his techno alter ego, bringing more depth and insight to the saga, using sound to transcend time and space. *serinatatis* starts off the proceedings with a relentless drive and lofty pulsating pads that give you the feeling of a dismal oasis, with its brooding bassline and obscure vocals penetrating the construct. *dark population* takes us further down the rabbit hole into deeper rhythmic vibrations. this hypnotic ceremonial floor shaker echoes the cerebral ethos of the ep. last, but not least, *convective zone* cracks the sky and lets the sun shine in with its rolling baseline and ethereal chord structure. homage to the term techno soul is paid in full here as a trumpet blares through without losing the depth of the moment.

continuing his prolific run of new material for the label, johannes heil continues to push forward with his >transitions< series, here collecting four more unique tracks for volume 2. opening with the serene calm and krautrock influenced >transition five<, a five minute piece that opens up a rich synth landscape full of space and texture, we then move onto the first of the eps two full-spectrum techno trips. hotly tipped for the summer as an essential festival and open air moment, the powerful and optimistic energy behind >transition six< is hard to ignore. that combined with heils extremely well sculpted and high-end production, the scene is set for madness to ensue… on the flip side we visit more paranoid zones with >transition seven<. building from a minimalistic stuttering rhythm, a soaring sci-fi soundtrack of strings and intricate synth patterns lift the tension, while dramatic sound effects crash and shimmer across the spectrum. this then prepares us for >transition eight<, in which we find johannes working his refined club-sound into yet further directions and angles. at once hypnotising and dominating in its driving bass register and captivating arrangement, a highly charged minimalist club tool for 2014 awaits!

here comes the sun (1971) is an album by jazz singer-pianist nina simone, consisting of cover versions of songs by pop and rock musicians. it features songs recorded in the rca studios with a full orchestra and backing vocals. although simone covers songs by bob dylan and the beatles, among others, most of the versions feature arrangements substantially different from the original recordings. this is most clearly in the final song *my way*, which with its fast pacing rhythm deviates significantly from the usual interpretations. pressing on audiophile 180 gram vinyl.

it s been a long, long time since coyu produced an ep full of original tracks for his beloved kitty label. september of 2013 was the last party groovers from him. through all these months our mastercat has released several eps on cocoon recordings, snatch! records, noir music, bedrock records and some edits and original tracks with ramiro lopez and edu imbernon that have been released on suara. finally, we have our mastercat alone with two oustanding cuts. in my mind is a dark techno track with a break that it will literally blow your head up... balls , however, is a very housey and summery cut that will definetely break your hips because of the instantly recognisable vocals and the killer darbuka rhythm. enjoy this is 100% coyu!

if vocals of 90s acts like bjork and massive attack, to the choral of female crooners that came out of scandinavia in the 2000s hit a sweet spot, than the voice of gry bagoien will be a welcomed sound. here for scissors & thread, with the help of francis harris and jordan lieb (aka black light smoke), the danish singer debuts on the american label under her own name (rather than using her known gry alias). she delivers a four-track ep of smokey, abstract house music and throughout phantom power bagoien s voice sounds as though it s being projected through an oversized telephone speaker, either in a jazz club next to miles davis, a studio full of deep efdemin arrangements, in the wilderness at a swedish festival or lost in a cosmos of reverb and delay with fever ray.

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

after his big success with waehlscheibe 003, p. laoss returns on the swiss label with another dub house masterpiece. the german producer has once more switched on his reverb and delay gear and created a wonderful record full of fluffy chords, gentle pads and heavy basses. >rephrasing dub<, >i dont care< and >never though< all display the mans musical mastery in terms of harmony, variety and dramatic expression. in his remix of >i dont care<, federsen from san francisco has taken the crispy deep original and turned it into a broken beat stunner brimming with dubby crackles, noises and delays – all created with his analogue machines. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.

brooklyn duo xeno and oaklander are a minimal electronics girl/boy duo from brooklyn, ny. they began writing music and soundtracks in 2004. liz wendelbo is french / norwegian and sean mcbride is from maryland. they record their songs live in their brooklyn studio and play analogue synthesizers and instruments exclusively. this summer, xeno and oaklander bring their minimal electronic sounds to ghostly international with new album par avion, their first for the label.
